now thinking I may swap the board..what would you recommend? I found this store... http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=2
Hi Thanks for the replies. Managed to get 7 on and loaded up although it is a little slow.. I may upgrade the RAM to 1gb and see if that helps. I also had XP on the machine and that was pretty quick.
Can i ask how you download Riderunner? I have been on the nisu site and clicked the download in the top right.. It downloads but then asks me what programme i want to open it?
Im also considering Centrafuse.. Any ideas?
Try all the frontends, you get RR from Mitch's one-drive, he posted a link. I would put xp back on that board bump ram to 1 gig get all the updates and .net framework installed then try RR try CF and also try Driveline. Nothng to set up to run DL just run the exe and set your radio, gps, ob2 ports and away you go. It should run pretty good on that board. Good luck SNO
I don't see what board you linked to, but on that site I would get this board http://www.mini-itx.com/store/~JNF9G-QM77 and find a cpu from a laptop on eBay for it. I think RRay has this board, I have a similar Jetway board with a q9100 quad core low draw works perfectly. SNO
I have that Jetway NF9G-QM77 board..its got a heap of onboard com ports,usb,usb3 and other header pins..the cpu for it like SNO said you can easly get from a laptop 2nd hand...it runs very up to date componants...also has a msata socket so apart from a power supply (150w M2) you can assemble it in a case very easly and everthing being on board it very secure.msata drives can be found 2nd hand also..it has great bios options and with a decent cpu msata combo will cold boot to playing music/radio in 25 seconds or under if you tweak it.

cheers lads much appreciated. My budget is £100 for the board so slightly out of my range (for now) would you have an alternative? With regards to the cpu I have a PC sat here with a e machines e4064 here... could i use the cpu from that?
Some advice i can give....
Write down all the things you can think of that you might want to add to your carpc..ie obd...car tuning hardware...digital radio the list can go on forever...
Tailor the mother board to suit...
I use a few com ports and i hate usb to serial adapters.i like to keep the software/drivers to a minimum so i use actual serial ports.
Usb 3 is a nice addition but i think speed is most important. Get the best you can afford.i started with a atom board.while it does a good job the i7 jetway board make the carpc experiance what it should be...very highend and not clunky.not sure i can help you on picking another board but dont rush it...check your cpu specs and see what you can get
on that note the mate i thihnk ill just bite the bullet and buy the board you recommended. Would the cpu from the pc i have fit? big learning curve for me this but i find it very interesting. :-)
also what box would i need to fit the board into? thanks
If the e machines uses a pga988 cpu socket the it might fit..just googling it now..
