    Researching system, looking for suggestions

    Hey all..

Like many others here, I found this group when researching options for mp3 players in my car. Since finding this group, my ideas have only become more ambitious :-D. I own a 2002 Passat GLX (V6, 4motion, fully loaded), which is only been mine for a month. I’m very picky about making any permanent changes, and I’d like my install to be very clean. I would consider myself very resourceful, being a computer programmer (I may contribute to the software development here due to 10 years of visual basic experience), as well as some experience in carpentry. Still, I’m not comfortable with making permanent changes to my car, but I am comfortable with disassembling things, and making custom fit parts as long as the original parts are unharmed.

Now that the A/S/L is over, this is what I want:

In-Dash LCD (maybe touch screen if possible), size is flexible, but quality is important. For space reasons (I have a small dash)
    DVD/CD
    MP3 Player
    GPS Nav
    ISO ScanTool
    WiFi
Wireless KB with built in touchpad (preferably with blue glowing keys), and also compact if possible.

As far as software I want to run, I want to support all the major emulators, so that means a couple of game pads too.

I’d be willing to remove the climate control to provide more room if I can interface it though ScanTool, anyone know if that’s possible?

Here are a couple pictures of my dash.

I’m open to suggestions on how to get this started, deals to watch out for, general advice.

All help is very much appreciated,
    Rich

Check to see if a Xenarc 700TSV will fit your dash opening. The rest shouldn't require much if any permanent changes.

I would go with a headunit (HU) and an in-dash VGA touch screen LCD. www.digitalww.com for that. As for a computer, mount in trunk and use either inverter (Fast and easy) or DC-DC (Better, more money) to power it. I would use a low-powered VIA M10000 motherboard/proc and give that a go, you could prob make a case for it and stick that in the trunk too. For audio to the system, Aux-In on the HU, and you are good to go. I would put the HU in the 2nd DIN slot, and the pullout LCD in the first, so you can use both at the same time.
