    any successful E36 installations ?

    well, I've been inspired a lot with all the projects and posts on the board. I have a E36 and am wondering if anyone had a satisfactory design for his carpc (especially for the LCD).

    I currently have an aftermarket HU and it fits only to the top slot in the dash, all others below are not deep enough for a HU or in-dash LCD.

    my questions would be :
    1- where did you put your LCD ? Are you comfortable using it at its current location ?
    2- did you relocate any of HU/climate controls/OBC(full) ? if yes, which one(s) to where ?
    3- where do you keep your case?
    4- Are you using your stock battery or replaced it ?
    5- what power supply did you select ?

    I prefer to put an indash LCD or relocate both the HU & climate controls and put LCD on top 2 slots (not in-dash). Every relocation is a lot of work. I feel like if I put the LCD at the OBC + sunglass area, it will be too down and not easy to use especially while driving.

    I saw posts from techm3 and mikeinsanmarcos on the board but first has very few & incomplete pictures while pics from second can not be seen at all. Mike & techm3; do you have any sites that I can see your installation pics ?

    I have an E36, not sure if I can help much at the mo, as it's continously being redesigned, however to answer your questions

    1- where did you put your LCD ? Are you comfortable using it at its current location ? - It's on top of the dash at the mo (pioneer WD6010 quick release) . No looking to get a proper VGA one.

    2- did you relocate any of HU/climate controls/OBC(full) ? if yes, which one(s) to where ? - No, but am looking to move the climate control down to the bottom, however then need to find a home for my head unit

    3- where do you keep your case? - in the boot, its a compaq EN SFF, it's connected to the back of the seats with video brackets

    4- Are you using your stock battery or replaced it ? yes stock battery, I have a 6 cylinder so it's bigger than the average anyway (plus it's at the back )

    5- what power supply did you select ? currently using an inverter, however want to change to a DC-DC, but will have to change the PC as the compaq will not take a standard ATX PSU.

    Don't know if any of that helps.

    enforcer, thanks for your post. I have given more thought to it and decided what I needed.

    I will go ahead with a tablet PC, probably a Fujitsu Stylistic w/ 8.4" display and 4gb hd, 64+ memory. Because I only want to use this for GPS, nothing else. My HU already plays MP3 and I am not a big fan of TV or video in the car [ Do I watch TV even at home ? ]

    the only other option could be to use a subnotebook w/ 10.4" or smaller display. Anything else is lot more expensive and needs a lot of time & effort.
