    MP3 Files

OK I'm a total MP3 noob. I have some assorted MP3 files on my hard drive, most of which I dislike, and are probably illegal files downloaded by my kids from Kazaa. Most of the music that I like is on CD.

I have researched some and discovered that I can rip my CDs to .wav files, and then encode them to MP3. Then add the data and artwork. Seems time consuming.

Can "albums" be purchased as MP3s with artwork etc.? If I have to encode my own from CD where do I get the artwork, track and title info, etc.?

Can MP3s still be downloaded from Kazaa etc.?? Does anyone use an old MP3-whore PC for this purpose specifically? I won't dare download file-sharing software to my primary PC.

    Thanks for the help!!

Most people use Exact Audio Copy to rip CD's to MP3 format.

I belive there are apps for grabbing album art, but I don't see any need for album art, so I don't know of them.

Any good CD ripper can use CDDB to grab the track data from the net.

You can use Itunes or Napster to download albums from the net, but you will find them of inferior quality to a CD (they do tend to be cheaper though, if money is an issue).

Of course you can still use kazaa or any filesharing app you want. You just might get sued or get a virus. using a junk pc for grabbing mp3's won't really protect you from either, because you're going to have to connect it to your desktop to transfer the files over, and and any virus will come along with it. You're also still legaly liable .

DB Power Converter is available for free. Uses CDDB to identify the contents of your cd. Will rip to WAV or MP3 You can also grab artwork using a 5.00 program called Gotcha Covered. I downloaded it for free, liked it so much sent the 5.00 to the author. Pretty much the next day.

Whats kind of funny to me, you have a guy who has a car pc, but dosent really know that much about MP3 files??? Isnt the primary reason most of us have a car pc is for MP3's. Just thought it was kind of odd.
