Question on sound...

So I am going to build a setup for my friend.

1) He is wanting to run a setup w/o a HU! I know how to do it with a HU, thats easy, but I am not sure how to do it w/o. So can anyone fill me in?

2) Also, do you guys think this powersupply would run this setup?
AMD XP 2500+ Barton 333MHz
Shuttle Micro ATX MN31N(onboard sound and vga)
256mb PC2700
1 External Iomega® CD-RW 48x24x48x / DVD-ROM 16x USB 2.0 Drive
1 Seagate 40gb 7200 hd
...

3) He also is planning on buying this screen. If we decide to put the PC in teh trunk, would it be better to buy a SVIDEO extender cable or VGA extended cable to connect the PC to the screen? or does it matter?

4) Shessh I keep remembering questions I had. If he turns the PC to hibernate mode and shuts off the car, will the pc still be able to hibernate with the car off?

First, welcome to the board.

Second, please read the stickies in this forum, espcially the one about Descriptive titles. Your first two topics are covered in the Newbie FAQ thread (short answers here: 1 Run straight into the amplifier from the soundcard and 2 Don't see why not...but you'd still need an invertor)
3. It matters. VGA cable.
4. If he either shuts down the pc manually or has a shutdown controller, then sure--mine does...hibernate doesn't draw any power. If he just shuts the car off he's SOL.

2. beware when you see 12VATX power supplies as a description, more often than not it means it it suitable for the new Intel P4 processors which need a seperate 12V out. It does not mean it will work on a 12V input.

always look at the specifications and look for the input value.

yeah, his power supply required wall current in....hence the invertor.

Why do you need such a powerful system? You can do just as well with a 900 mhz P3 or athlon system and save yourself a pile of cash.

One word about those power supplies. I used to work in the service department of a computer shop. We had built systems for a few schools using those power supplies and the fans in them were constantly failing, causing them to overheat and burn out (we replaced one every few weeks).
