Woah, me gonna have to wait thats wayyyyyy to much for my liking... what about just a simple 7" lcd + enough stuff to play mp3s/dvds.... forget the gps ect... plus I have ram and such
well you shouldn't consider building a car pc until you know how much you can spend and know exactly what you need to get you want cheap hows this?
any motherboard you can find $15 - 30
RAM you said you have
Any processor (above 450Mhz should do)
decent sound card $20 at any store
Case and power supply $25 - 50 (250 watt min)
ATI or Nvidia Video card with tv out $25 - 75
300 Watt Inverter (I've seen as low as $25)
PSone LCD (generic $50+)
OK heres the deal, hit up all of the local computer stores most would have old hardware lying around and they're always looking to make a quick buck I'm sure you could get away cheaply if you ask for any old hardware, next pick yourself up a generic PSone LCD screen and wire it up you can add little things like input devices and upgrade as you go but thats about as crude a car PC you could get. you could get away for as little as $150
hows the psone work w/o a vga cable?
you get a graphics card that outputs to composite.
Car computers are as expensive as you make them.
10.4" industrial touchscreen: 125 after shipping
Touchscreen overlay: 35 after shipping
Touchscreen controller: 35 after shipping
15" VGA cable: $20 after shipping
delorme earthmate with software: 125 at the delorme store in maine
misc. cables: $50
computer I got in a trade: $0
a bunch of junk i had lying arround: $0
and I had myself a car computer. Now of course, since that I've almost spent another $800. get a check, and give it to somebody else.
Question I have all the parts needed, the only issue I have is where to put the screen. I have thought of putting it where the stereo is, and pushing the stereo down so I can still use the aux input.Originally Posted by Animosity
that hard drive is way overpriced man, i can get an 80 gig for ~90-100
I've heard some good things about some of the smaller computer stores around our area selling outdated stuff cheap, we should go try to talk down some prices sometime and maybe get a group discount lol
