What exactly can be done w/ an Xbox??

I've been reading around and have noticed that a lot of you are modding xboxes. I'm about to start my own CarPC soon, so I'm still kinda iffy about what to build. Basically, I wanna know if it's better to build a pc or mod an Xbox. I wanna use my system for gps, mp3, dvd, gaming, etc... all the good stuff. Thanks!

build a system. it's not worth your time to attempt to mod an xbox except for the 'cool factor'. life's simpler, easier, and better to use something designed to be a computer.

Never touched my xBox but I read a bunch to know the basics.

With an xBox you are limited to:
OS: Linux (or Windows 2000 run inefficiently through Linux)
    Inputs: USB
    Outputs: USB, Composite A/V
RAM: 128mb, xBox ships with 64mb tho
Peripherals: Most USB peripherals supported by linux (refer to the USB GPS documents)

"backuped"??? Is that a word? Isn't it more properly "backed up"?

I'm just kidding tho... it's all in jest.

    I dunno about xbox limitations

With linux and Windows CE (recently ported), there's not a whole lot you couldn't do on an xbox (which can be done on a PC).

Aside from the RAM and CPU limitations, using an xbox for a car PC is a pretty slick idea.

Granted, as mentioned above, many cool features (not supported natively or already "hacked") may require a fair bit of effort to get working on the xbox.

Because windows isn't coded to work with XBOX, but there are several (1 or 2?? maybe more) linux distros that are coded specifically to turn your XBOX into a usable PC.
