    Talking Hello people

    Hi all,

I'm new here, i've only been viewing this forum for about 10 minutes and allready i'm building my CarPuter and bidding on a Touch screen TFT on ebay!!
I've allways wanted a pc in my car, i usually carry my laptop with me on journeys, it's partially intergrated in to my car as i have the cable to go from the laptop headphone socket into the Rca/Phono aux in on my head unit.

As i'm in the UK, i cant find any companies selling in car TFTs, so i've had to resort to Ebay, i'm bidding on a Lilliput 7" Touchscreen with VGA input. I'd really like an 'in dash' screen but i cant afford one at the moment (not one with touch screen anyway).

I'm a PC Technician by trade, so i've got a few bits and bobs lying around, in the past few minutes i've mashed together a 'book pc' motherboard:
    http://www.green.se/products/ELITEGR...s630e_spec.htm

with an intel P3 850 processor, 512mb pc133 ram, dvd combi drive and a 80gig hard drive.

Only problem i can't solve is the shutting down of the PC when i turn the ignition off. I'll be powering the PC by a 12v - 230v inverter for now: http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...moduleno=29169

And its all going into a 1990 Ford Scorpio 2.9 V6, so, any of you CarPC 'old timers' got any recommendations for a newbie?

I'll be posting pics on my website once i get it all sorted.

    see ya,
    Wez

Mastero ATX Shutdown controller will do you good.

do a search on here for the mastero shutdown controller it will solve your issues of shutting down, also remember when you crank the engine the system will reboot, unless you use
A: two batteries one wired to the pc other for the car,
    B: a tank circuit
C: a decent power supply unit that will still suppllie the required voltages even at low voltages approx 10v during the 3 seconds or cranking time. there are a few mentioned on the forum here, Regards Andrew ( Long timer in the carputer scene)

    thanks for the quick reply.

I was thinking about running two batteries with a split charging system for my Audio Install, but that will be into the summer before i do that (i don't fancy playing with electrics in the british rain)

i may be able to get hold of a UPS, i'll have a think of how i can intergrate that for now!

I've just got the PC up and running with XP Pro. I've just installed Media Engine 2 with the Required Media Player 9, but when running any movies (mpg, avi etc..) i gat a MSDXM.OCX error, the Media Engine Closes down?
    Any more info appreciated readers!

    Thanks again,
    Wez

    This site is good!

Just searched this board for my MSDXM.OCX error, and i'm gald to see i'm not the only person with the problem.

My fix was to copy the MSDXM.OCX file from my windows millenium PC and put it on my carputer, videos now play.

    Hooray.

    Cheers,

I saw ALLCAM, but now that you've mentioned CarTft, they seem to be cheaper.

If i get outbid on ebay or if it starts going to silly prices, i'll be visiting CARTFT.

    Cheers,

Power supply wise, get on the Opus group buy. With current currency rates it works out at about 120. It's gonna be the only power supply you'll need. If you haven't bought anything power wise yet...don't!

If you've got the inverter already within the past week or so...take it back

Good to have another UKer around the place
