    how would i do this?

what i want to get out of this is i want to have the ability to have my mp3s and play dvds off a touch screen in my car... also, since i have a lot of car audio already in my car, i figured it would be better if i kept my HU then just had the comps audio going through the aux of my hu... i figure a carpc would be the best way... i have a fairly old ibm laptop lying around... its like a 550 processor, but with a small hardrive(i have an external that i can hook up to it and i thikn i have an external dvd i can hook to it) few questions.. 1. will having all of that be too much of a power drain. 2. are digital ww touch screens any good? 3. what else would be needed to get this project done? and 4. is there a simpliar but inexpensive alternative to the laptop i have since it would also require an external hd and a external dvd drive? all suggestions are welcome, but in truth i would like to spend no more than 600-700 dollars max...

    Here is a start:link
i say start with what mobo you want to use.
From there go to placement of computer, hardware, screen, power and software after that you should be set sorry if i just said search but there is not much to say when you ask such a broad question, i cant tell ya what to wear.
sounds to me like you need to do a bit more thinking
    hope this helps

Maybe the isnt the best answer..you really should just go thru the Newbie section one by one. It will answer more questions than you have asked and prepare you for other things you may have not thought about yet. You really need to know the direction you want to go, and that section may help enlighten you to what is out there. Also, look thru the completed stuff, and get ideas on the finished product.

The most simple way to use your laptop is to just get a docking station and a touchscreen. The rest is in the setup. From there, you need to pick a front end, I use MediaCar, others use Media engine (all free downloads) and others yet use their own software that they design.

    Good luck and happy surfing

aaa now we are gettin some where. we all started there and im still there. check this link
see the 15 pin male connector on the left? is that what you mean? its the same as the monitor you are using now. does your laptop have the female in the back? like it does on your desktop. should have a lill square symbol to let you know monitor. is that what you are talking about?

as im looking at my laptop it has a small plug for the moniter... it has 15 holes and i think it will fit whats in the picture... so does this mean all the touch screen is is the monitor cable for picture plus a usb for the touchscreen and when both are pluged into the laptop it will be a touchscreen monitor?
