    Using a PS2 as a carputer..sort of

    Hey guys,

I know some of you are playing with Sony's PS2 in your carputer system. What I was curious about is are you using the PS2 as your computer? Before someone flames me, I did do a search on the words PS2 and Playstation. The results were just too many and the title of the topics weren't indicative of the content of the message! I'll be happy to do more searches if someone can tell me a more precise method!

    Thanks.

PS2 as a carputer seems useless.

Now an Xbox, that would be ok. wouldnt nee vga input on the monitor and you could have 300 gigs of mp3s and divx.

Here is all the PS2 info. I have found in my hours of searching,.... I am kinda dumb when it comes to computers,..... LOL,..... So I know I don't fully understand all this. I am trying to find an RCA adapter so the cd changer input of my Alpine head unit,.. It is a Ai-net plug......., if not I will use the rca inputs on my Alpine ERA-G320 sound field processor and EQ,........ I think for my purposes, composite video out will be ok, I currently have a Sony 5in. PS1 LCD mounted in my dash, and I can play games like ATV offroad fury 2, GTA vice city, and watch movies fine,.... and just need a simple display menu for song lists and such,...... But I would like a bigger screen,.. that is for sure,........ I just want movies, games,. and audio stored on a large hard drive,........ I remember reading some were that a 160 gig. HDD was poss.,.... seems the only way get the HDD tool is to buy the Linux kit or the 40 gig. HDD that comes out in March w/ final fantacy XI on it for $99..........

Any other input on this Idea would be great,........LOL

    Thinking the same thing...

If you are still thinking about it, I have done a little research on the subject and here is what I found:

Maxtor hard drives mount right up to the Network Adapter (No Modding Required)

The max space for the hard drive is 120GB (Due to the way information is passed)

Harddrives that you can use, and others have tested, can be found here:
    http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=list&sort=brand

The only issue with getting the linx kit is that it is no longer available for NTSC systems, and PLEASE tell me if you find it somewhere...

The harddrive that comes with the Final Fan game is a 40GB maxtor... Why not go for the 120GB???

You will also need a third party software solution for formatting and storing of games and such on the system... You can search for the software or simply pm me...

Thinking that I may attempt to put windows CE (Customized of course) onto the PS2 and partition the HDD, but haven't worked it out yet... Wanted the Linux kit, but again, not available...

    Hope that helped you out...
