Question Newbie - Help needed regarding LCD character displays

    Hi
I am all-new to the CarPc area. I have got myself a nice little pc (333mhz Compaq) for my car (Citroen Picasso 1.6 SX) with IR remote control and using winamp to play my mp3's.

I would like to be able to see what the Song is that I am playing.
    (The song title, time etc)

I donít want to spent allot, donít want a flashy TFT.

I need a serial LCD character display to put in the dash.

I have a problem though; I have no idea where to start.
    My questions are,
What do I need to buy to get it all to work?
Where do I buy the stuff?
    What software do I need?
How do I connect it all etc.

    Any help is appreciated!!!

    Thanks
    Chris

(A UK Supplier would be preferred, but if not it doesnít matter)

I can't help with that, since I'm not there, but I think these manufacturer will ship worldwide. I always feel better buying directly from the manufacturer in case of problems - I had to return a fried unit to Crystalfontz and it was easy and quick to get a replacement.

I got one based on the HD44780 controller and wired it myself, $10 for the LCD plus $7 for various parts (Cat5 cable, parallel connector, etc).
