How speedy are these 1ghz VIA setups?

What is a typical boot time when running a stripped down WinXP off a laptop 5400rpm HD?

The biggest hurdle is the laptop drive.

My dad is running a 20gb drive (not sure whether it's 5400 or 4200rpm) and it takes about 50 seconds from cold boot, to playing music.

Mine, with a 40gb 7200rpm drive, is about 35-40 seconds.

However, use Hibernate, or Standby, and a good power supply to enable you to do this, and your start up times can be < 10 seconds

i've got a EPIA-M, but it only runs 600 mhz on the C3 processor, i'm a little confused about that. but anyway, ive got XP Pro (not lite) with a 7200 RPM hd from cold boot to music in 43, from hibernate in 23.

22 seconds from hybernate to music. Via Epia M10000, 512 MB RAM, USB from everywhere. Haven't touched XP.

I do it twice a day with mine, haven't had any problems yet, except sometimes the mouse goes screwy. A reboot fixes that.

There are several varieties of the EPIA M, one of them is 600mhz.

Is it slower or faster than a regular cold boot? I thought cold boot to hibernation is slower than regular cold boot...
