What effect do 'carputers' have on mpg?

    Hi all,

I am still in the process of researching before installing a pc into my beloved A4 1.8T sport.

What i would like to know but can't seem to find out, is the effect on fuel consumption. I get an average of 25mpg and was wondering if that would change once i was running a pc. I don't think i'm going for mini-itx so it'll be ATX with athlon processor. I am also seriously considering buying the opus 150w psu.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all of your help so far.

Probably no where near as much effect as your right foot on the on/off switch

First search, and if anything sit down for 5 minutes and think about it. 12-15A more draw over everything else?, what do you think.
    Mine needs to be updated.

    Talking

If you are really worried about the fuel consumption, may I suggest you trade your car for:

And if this consumes to much still, trade it for a bicycle with a PocketPC

your car's engine uses and generates 140kW of power at WOT...your carputer will use MAYBE 200 watts. Negligible...there is more loss than that in the alternator and electric system.

    Should be fine....

Even when I installed a second alternator, I noticed no appreciable change in fuel economy..... so you shouldn't see anything at all. Be sureto post pictures when you're done - Audis rock!! Good luck....

Why does everyone feel the need to dump on noobies? They are new they don't know any better, give them a break and help them out, don't be asses and tell them to search for everything. Can't you just not post anything istead of being losers?
