so we just got a '99 accord, and I want to put a carputer in it

My brother just turned 16 and my parents are buying a car for him, so they dont have to drive him around everywhere. He wont be able to get his license until the end of the summer, so I'll be using the car while Im back from college. I have a 7" liliput lcd, 60gb hdd, ram, and dvd drive, so I want to install a computer in the car for mp3 playback. I was planning on going with an EPIA board w/an opus PSU

Id like to fabricate the mounting (I guess you'd call it) for the LCD from bondo/fiberglass so it looks nice, but Id like to make the entire thing removable so I can move it into the car Im planning on buying next year. So, what would I need to do this? is there some place I can buy a replacement dash part for a '99 accord?

i've got a 2002 honda accord and am planning on doing the same... i haven't foudn any good fabrications for the dash so i'm thinking of doing it myself..

i'm trying to leave my dash in as stock look as possible (don't want too much attentino..)..

i was thinking of installing the pc in the center console area and the lcd in front of the clock/vents... prob remove the clock to run the lcd wires...

so it seems to be that like most, we're on our own on the dash.. hehe..
you should post some pics of your project if you do it..

Dyne - Look at local wrecking yards for a different dash. That way you can modify it however you want and switch it back later. This also helps to fabricate it so your car doesn't look trashed while you are building your new console, and you can take your time and do a great job.

Seamonkey - That looks like some good ideas you have. Think about installing your cpu in the trunk so you have more room for gadgets and such in your console. If you're not worried about system expansion, though, then the console is a good spot too (be sure to ventilate it

ah I didnt even think about heading to the junkyard for spare parts. I was looking for pics on google and came up with this, which is pretty much exactly what Id like to do.

also, would there be enough room in the center console to fit the entire PC behind the LCD? and maybe put the dvd drive in glove compartment or something?

okay here is my 00 accord www.sounddomain.com/id/puppettmaster . You can buy all teh replacement palrts you need, center consoles, misc panels, almost anything at http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ . A replacement console costs $44 from there for my car.

Almost forgot, I would have more pics up but my Lilliput died. I have to cut out the dash again and send the old one back then reinstall. It should be a little easier this time around. You dont' have to cut VERY much from the dash to get a Lilliput to fit. You are going to have to bend these two little metal tabs that held the stereo in. Go to www.handaaccessories.com and pick up the EX Stereo attachment to install the stereo directly under the LCD.
