    Temperatures Extreme a problem?

I was looking at some optical drives to use in my carputer, and noticed that the storage temp was (of the Panasonic UJ-815-B I like) -30C and operating temp at 0C and max at 65C and 50C respectivly.

I couldn't get any temp stats for my HU, but its also a Panasonic, and I assume my HU is better built for the extreme temps usually found in a car.

Would I damage my dvd drive/mobo/cpu/etc if it got too cold?

In a place where the temperature can drop anywhere between -45C in the winter and +40 in the summer, this is quickly becoming my main concern.

I know too much heat can cause problems, but I'd find a way to make a duct come in from the AC in desperate situations.

The only other thing I could think of is if I took the computer out of the car and left it in the house everyday, but that would a huge hassle, and the optical drive (which would be molded the to dash board center console) would still have to stay.

The optical drive probably will not be harmed by tempature extremes but it may not work untill it's warmed up/cooled down.

For the mobo and CPU, heat is your biggest enemy. Overheating WILL kill your system.

Cold generaly seems not to be a problem except for hard drives. I reccomend geting a removable hard drive caddy, and just bringing the hard drive in every night, rather then the entire machine.

Another thing to worry about is thermal expansion. Because of the large tempature shift the system is going through on a regular basis, cards can work themselves loose from their slots (vibration can cause this too). A drop of hot glue on the card to affix it to the mobo should keep that from happening.

Finaly, it's best to let the system warm/cool to the proper operating tempature before starting it up, but I'm sure thats obvious.
