    Lcd and gps in australia

    Hi guys
ive just stumbled accross this site and i think its very cool.
I have a very basic question that i cannot seem to find the answer to.. Is it possible in australia to buy buy a gps navigation unit or plugin (preferibly turn by turn) that will plug into an lcd headunit? and if so does anyone know a rough price and where i can get it from?

and also does anyone recomend a good indash lcd /dvd/cd/mp3 etc headunit for around $1500AUD

    thanx very much guys

some of the high end clarion or alpine stuff might do something close to what you want but if you have 1500 your better off building a custom pc and lcd touchscreen setup in ur car not just going for a head unit

hmmn.. i think i've seen something like that in a clarion (or maybe alphine's) brochure when i visited my local autobahn store... but anyway if you noticed, this place is more geared into diy stuff and if you've got that money to spend you better off building a carputer with destinator for your gps software and discover the fun of building something from scratch...

(i wish i had that money to spend )

If you have $1500 burning a hole in your pocket, then you have well more than you need to do this properly. This is all just computer stuff, so most of it plugs together pretty easy. I live in Sydney as well - so I'm not much good to you. I'd start by:

    * Reading everything on these forums
    * Put together a wishlist of features
    * Put together a spec for the machine that you need to meet that spec

Only then are you ready to spend some money.

Have a look at my site for an (out-of-date) idea of some of the things you might want/need. Let us know how you get along!
