I looked around a bit here, and am finally gonna get aorudn to doing it. I have one friend who has already done one, so he can help me do most of it.

I am planning on starting off with a computer in the back, hooked up to a power inverter and use one of those fm things that outputs a signal to a radio station, so i can just switch to a certain station in order to hear my computer out, or use the stock head unit when i don't wanna power up.

Here is a list of what i have, forgive me for the lack of details, but i dont' know what brand and such most of the things are, and i haven't bought much of teh stuff yet either. just making sure i can fit it in my 450 dollar budget

1. 300watt power supply (already have)
2. motherboard (have)
3. p2 400mhz processor (have, hope i won't need more)
4. video card (was on the high end when i bought my old computer) (have)
5. sound card (also on high end when i bought my old computer) (have)
6. cooling fans (have)
7. floppy drive (have)
8. wiring inside comptuer (have)
9. cd/dvd rom (have)
10. 10 gb hard drive (have, plan on running most songs through my dvd

)
11. lcd moniter, looking for a 7" touch screen. i hear there are some things that allow you to put any lcd in it and you can manually flip it out. i'll have to find one of these. (please tell me if you know where i can find the housing thing)
12. 4 guage wiring for the battery to power inverter (don't have)
13. 400 watt continuous power inverter (don't have, but saw a one for 20 bucks on ebay)
14. wiring for lcd (should come wiht lcd)
15. fuse to go between power inverter and battery (don't have)
16. fuse to go between lcd and battery (don't have)
17. fm out thing (don't have, don't know where to get one, need suggestions on this)

Thank you for reading/helping. If i forgot something blatant, then please be sure to say something before i do this. I really need to make sure i can find that flip out manual housing stuff, cause without it, i won't be able to put the lcd anywhere else in my dash. There really is no room unless i take out my double-din head unit, but then i have to get an amp for my stock speakers. i already ahve a sub in the trunk too, so i'd have to out to my sub amp also. lotta work.

oh ya, one question. i have a w7 in the trunk, so it's quite a powerful sub. Will it damage my computer due to vibrations or something?

suggest you skip the "17. FM out thing" and try to use any auxiliary inputs on your head unit (if they are there). FM modulators have terrible sound, and you will not like it as soon as you use it.

if you dont have a head unit with aux inputs, then i would say to save up for one that does... until then, i suppose a fm modulator *will* get the job done...

Hmm.. i am currently testing with this veronica kit and the sound isn't half bad, granted, direct from computer to aux in would be a lot better but since my original car radio doesn't have one and I don't want to spend $350 for a radio which has an aux in AND can control my HUD display + be used with my steering wheel controls, this kit gives a good alternative. You just have to check for these values:

Audio Response 30Hz to 15KHz +/- 0.5dB

most modulators cut of a big portion of the sound, so does this one but.. well, just less of it ;-) which gives an alternative for the radio input

Am thinking about getting myself a little RDS kit which would pick up the displayed data from winamp (MediaCar) and send it along with the FM modulator kit so it would be displayed on my car's radio display

If you know how to shop around (and live in the states) you'd definately find a good HU for ~$100 ... my friend just got Aiwa HU for 30bucks which was a steal
plus
if you want steering wheel controls ~$20extra and get RM-X2S /RM-X4S sony remote to control winamp and you're set (pic of the remote http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...tid=2786&stc=1 , since i dont have game port the adapter is needed)

I have a stock headunit, so im pretty sure that there are no aux inputs. If you have any way of finding out or if anyone knows, it is a stock headunit for the 2004 corolla type s with cd, but no tape deck.

if there is any other way to get sound to the head unit without using the fm out thing, that would be extremely helpful. I also heard you can put this adapter thing between the antenna wire and head unit so it directly inputs the stream, but i'm not sure if it's better or not.

For input i plan on only using the touch screen, as i won't be able to type while i'm driving

and about those steering wheel buttons, i would love it if i could put those on, but from the picture, i don't know what the hell is going on. please be a little more discriptive on how to do it. Thanks.

Thanks for the link, i'll look into that after i get everything up and working.

i looked on digitalww, and almost everything is out of stock. Does anyone know how long they are be before being back in stock? Is there already a line of people in front of me waiting to get theirs before i can get mine?

Without this, i cna't do my carpc because this is the only way to put it in my car. damn, i was all excited and now i got screwed.
