true dat!!

building a carpc takes a lot of time and effort and money. if all you want is an mp3 player do like they suggested, otherwise...full gps, dvd, mp3, fm tuner, tv card, blah blah blah you should build a carpc

i personally would get an via epia board. they are very cheap and need hardly any power. get an opus, or even pw60a. 128mb ram, however big hd you need. get a slimline dvd drive with an adapter to convert to IDE for dvd's...you can get one thats made for laptops on ebay for really cheap, i got one for like $33. then get a $6 adapter and you're all set.

If you want something really cool and easy to install for JUST music, while retaining the customization ability of a computer, check out the empeg. Although its discontinued, the support site is very active and constantly updated...

this is the main (and unofficial) support site for the discontinued empeg and empeg MK2 owners. The unit fits into a single DIN slot in your car and is composed of a linux OS and a laptop hard drive. You can download visualizations off the net (at that site) and import them to the player. The entire player can be detached by sliding the unit out of its surrounding DIN-sized sled. Connections for USB and firewire allow for easy docking with your home PC

thank all you guys for the input, i am wantin to build this one kind of as a trial. To kinda see what it is like, and get some experience, then ill upgrade with all the goodies. Also, when i said that i had a huge music collection i meant HUGE, like 80 gigs in mp3 format. And i would like to be able to manange them without going through all the disks.
