hmm, using xbox as a carputer?

as i'm sure many of you know, a normal xbox can be modded to boot into Linux, do you think it could be used as a carputer??

i've been looking into it, and the only problem i'm seeing is how to hook up a touchscreen lcd to the xbox. i know you can mod the controller ports to be USB, which is great cuz i wanted to use it for gps, so there shouldn't be a problem hooking the usb from the touchscreen to the xbox. the problem i'm seeing is how do we get the vga of the touchscreen connected to the xbox?
there are vga converters for the xbox, but they run on an additonal power source and i'm not sure if they will disrupt the accuracy of the touchscreen.

reasons why i'm considering an xbox:

nice specs for only $149 (733mhz, 64mb ram, 8gb hdd, dvd drive, etc)
    easy to modify
    small case

    any suggestions/comments?

You will need to be able to custom write drivers for any USB device you want to use, sounds like it would take too much time.

Does you monitor only support VGA, most people have these lilliputs or xenarcs in there cars which have at least 1 composite input.

Just connect the xbox to that if that's the case and connectt heUSB of the TSK to a game port via a USB adaptor.

What about GPS, if your running linux you are quite limited to what can run.

I have installed linux on my xbox and personally did not like it. It seems slow but mabye that is just me most usb devises willl work with just plug in. remember you can only use the install verians provided. All I have used through usb is a keyboard, a mouse and a hub though so good luck. I would tsop flash to be cheap if you are not going to ever play any games on it, this disables live though.

You can TSOP flash AND still use Live. You just have to divide the TSOP into (upto 4) banks and then install some switches to switch between banks (3 mod'd ROMS, standard ROM). If you forget to switch and accidently load up a game or even the Xbox Dash, say good bye to Live from that particular XBox ID. Never fear though, you can easily buy a new ID and flash it in to make Live work again.

This will only work if you have a xbox version 1.0 or 1.1, versions about 1.2 have a 256k bios and cannot be split up... the older versions have 1mb bios'... so if you have a newer one you can eithor use software hacks, or get a mod chip...

you can mod the cable from the xbox and use a certain bios to get VGA out from your xbox too... so you dont need composite video..

Just use XBConnect instead of live...It's free and it doesn't matter if the box is modded.
