Are there any negative things i have to worry about when extending vga cable upwards of 25 ft? Also whats the best way to get usb2 cable to go lengths of 15~20ft?

The image could become blurred depending on the cable and how high frequencies you pass through it. It could also be perfectly acceptable.

USB 2.0 works fine on 5m long cables in my truck. If you need more you can use hubs.

I had my 25' plugged into my 6' and it certainly was blurry..

I have yet to try the 25' alone. I'll try to post a reply when I do.

blurry is bad. is there anyway to boost the signal? I have to run from my dash to my trunk. By my calculations I will have to use anywhere from 14-18 ft. I just throw 25 in there as over kill.

the higher the frequency the shortest you can have to keep the parallel signals good.

If its blurry, try a lower refresh rate, it might help you out.

USB is serial, so in theory you could have a 2 miles cable and it would work.

I'm using a 15' VGA with no problem. I believe the USB protocol is only designed to go about 12'. Do a search on "active USB extensions". An active USB extension is just a one port USB hub. www.cablesforless.com has USB 1.1 active usb extensions, www.expansys-usa.com has USB 2.0 active usb extensions.

While USB is 'serial', the length limitations comes from that fact it uses DC (direct-current) of 0VDC to +5VDC. Old serial (RS-232) uses much higher voltages and a peak-to-peak of -15V to +15V to signify 1's and 0's. The range for a '1' is -5VDC to -15VDC and '0' is +5VDC to +15VDC. That's why serial runs could be 50 feet. You could induce up to a 10VDC drop in the line and the electrical 'bits' could still be read by the receiving ends.

Back onto the subject, the longer the VGA cable, the more high-frequency signal-loss you're going to have. It is, of course, more evident as your run higher bandwidth/higher resolution. Best bet is to either, #1. Go DVI-D if at all possible or, #2 buy the best shielded VGA cable extension you can buy that's relatively thick and don't run it along anything that generates EMI. (i.e. AC lines). Hope this helps.
