My Project Outline w/some Questions.

Hello everyone,

Well, it’s shopping time!! I finally will have the budget to make this MP3Car project possible, and so I need to compile my shopping list.

I have read the forums on and off, for about 5 months now, and I have certainly learned quite a few things.

I have some questions about some things … some I am clueless about, so I don’t even know what to search for, so I just need a little guidance from you guys so I can look in the right direction. If I am wrong anywhere, please do correct me and offer suggestions.

Budget: Prefer under $700, but up to $1,000 is still OK.

The List
-TM701L from www.digitalww.com
-Stereo with Aux port
-OPUS 150W
-Will sacrifice home desktop
-all the other “little stuff”
-This will be installed in a Toyota Celica 2002 GTS.
Edit: It does have a double-din.

My plans:

I have decided to go with a composite TFT LCD. Most likely, I will buy it from www.digitalww.com and I want the TM701L.

If I’m correct, this is composite TFT screen right? In case I have any defect problems, Armen will repair under 1 year warranty, or does it have to be sent to manufacturer directly? All I should need is a Video Card on PC with TV-Out.

As far as actual connections:

To provide power to the LCD, what will I need? What cable, adapter, etc., will be running from battery to the LCD? What is it called, or if RadioShack carries it, you have part#?

Now, from battery to PC power supply. What kind of cable does it have to be (from battery to PC P.S.)? What else do I need to buy? Fuse, adapters, etc.? Does the Opus power supply have some special pins/connectors to connect cable coming from battery? (A picture of this connecter would be great, but if not, just help me on what else I need to make the connection).

Well, that’s it for now. I just need to get this ordered on my next paycheck :0)

Thanks in advance for all the help. I am willing to do all the extra research necessary, but just point me in the right direction.

The screen uses a standard RCA connector which is commonly used to component video.

As far as providing power the screen draws ~6W@12VDC. You will have to connect it to the ACC line in your car either directly or though the cigarette lighter. I dont know what kind of plug is on the screen so I cant be more specific than that.

However that being said if you have a double din area(not sure if the celcia has one) You can buy a lilliput/xenarc and put it flush mounted in that space - but you will most likely have to build a custom bezel if you do that. Personally this is what im doing.

I just hooked up my Lilliput LCD screen recently and used the Opus PS to supply power to it. I cut the supplied barrel connector from the cigarette lighter adapter and spliced into one of the Opus molex connectors. Actually used a splitter and ran to yellow to the positive and blk to negative of the barrel plug. No need for anything else. The screen even turns off by itself when the computer shuts down. No fuse either. Now that's with the lilliput that I have... not sure about the one you're picking up.

Now for the Opus connection. It comes with its own adapter. One end goes to the PS board and the other has the three bare wires. Take a look at the picture… top left. All I did was ran the red + to the battery with a 10 Gauge wire (Suggested by Kris from Opus), blk to a ground and the other to the ACC. That's it! I did however add an additional inline fuse. I think I used a 10amp fuse.
