anybody??![]()
please bear with me, i have been reading this forum for a couple of months now, but just registered last week...it took me 2 days to find the link for starting a new thread!!!![]()
i have read and soaked in as much info. as i think i possibly can. But still have a few questions:
1) POWER---OPUS is definetly the way to go from what i read, does it connect to atx/mini-itx/flex-atx motherboards? do they all use the same power connection? Or do i have to specify that when ordering the OPUS.
2) MONIOR---For the monitor i am going to use a 7" touchscreen (lilliput or xenarc), do they get their power directly from the OPUS? Is it a simple plug or do you have to solder something?
3) SOUND----I am probably going to go with the head unit and aux port method, unless someone can give me a reason not to...i dont really want to go this way b/c my 7" monitor is gonna go where the stock stereo is and there really isnt a place for the stereo, without custom fabricating something. Although i have seen a pic. of someone who has done it before on a diamante '01. This may be stupid, but is there like a wiring harness (from speakers) to sound card adapter??
4) Finally back to the OPUS 150W; i know of how its underrated so will it be able to power the following setup:
- mobo - nforce2 chipset
- cpu - mobile xp2500+
- mem - 512mb
- video - ati 9500
- hdd - 60 GB 7200 rpm (desktop not laptop)
- optical - dvd-rom (desktop not laptop)
- extras - usb GPS and TV tuner card
- Cooling - two to three fans
btw does the usb gps get its power from the usb cord or is there a seperate cord?
This is actually the computer i have at home right now, its using an antec 480W PSU...i wanted to move this to the card and build a diff. computer for home.
Am i asking too much of the OPUS???
Thanks for any comments.
P.S. ill be asking more questions as i think of them, i know there will be a lot.
And this is an awesome site, I spend more time here than i do sleeping these days!!![]()
1. yes, all but AT (which is old and useless anyway)
2. either, but most prefer using the opus (starts with comp with mod, cleaner power)
3. no, because you must power your speakers, your options are:
use head unit
use amplifier (headunitless)
4. idk, but that sounds like some overkill. Power calculators can give you an idea, but again the opus is underrated. (i would just look at some other comprable installs)
Power calculators (from this thread):

5. usb gps gets power from usb. serial gets power from car adapters, or ps2 ports, etc.
Look at the specs on my carputer. I am using the 150W PS. Only thing is I had to underclock my CPU to 2000. The reason I have to underclock it is becuase I don't have the 4 pin 12V connector plugged into my MB (doesn't have a spot) So if youre motherboard has the 4 pin connector your CPU should run just fine without underclocking.

Why put the fans on the Opus? Run those right off vehicle power.
What? Run it off the vehicle power? Why?Originally Posted by eCar™

To keep the load off the Opus.Originally Posted by brady
And have them running all of the time? Not like they use much power anyways.Originally Posted by eCar™

Fans are not as picky about the voltage, why load up the opus with amps drawn from the fans.Originally Posted by brady
Every fan I have played with runs a little slow at 7 volts and a little fast at 13.5 (typical voltage with the car running)
