I'm looking for dual screen functionality
mobo $130 ; 150wOpus-$200 ; 256mb pc2700 -$10 ; 120gb HDD 7200-$70 ; Lilliput TS 7"-$265 ; USB LAN-Free AR ; Rikaline 6010 GPS-$34 ; ShuttleXpress-$37
Total = $746....Carputer = Priceless
Depends what you want to do with your second display, i think that all mobos will support two video cards, and any windows from 98se up will support two vid. card. If you just want to "clone" the display just get a y adapter, if you want something different to be shown on each, then get another card. With another card you can expand your desktop and show multiple programs on each screen...it all depends

I wonder if there would be a way to have a screen mounted in the midpoint of the center console so that mp3's could be played through the amplifier (saaaay... a usb soundblaster mp3+ or audigy) with DVD sound coming through the onboard sound on a mobo. That way, if you had a dual display video card (not just mirrored as the vga splitter would give you) you could still navigate through mp3's while the passengers in the back seat could watch a movie. I'm not a software developer (just a lowly IT consultant) so I don't know if that is possible... I'm sure frodo and some of the other developers could work their magic and pull something off... Don't know if they would want to though... Besides... I don't have 2 lcd's to work with, nor will I ever. Screw the backseat passengers! That's why we call shotgun!

sorry for the stream of thought post, but it all made sense to me...
BTW... dvd audio would probably be used with Headphones as movie dialogue is pretty useless without the movie.
True a splitter will just split the image, but isn't that what you want for "dual screens". It wasn't explained well, but i assume that's what you were trying to do. As for atlharry's talk about dvd's in the back, i know you can have a dvd play full screen on one screen, and not full screen on the other, so that may be possible already (i use nview).
Agreed. I was wondering if you could have the embedded software use the separate sound hardware from the default... I haven't really researched it, but I guess it would depend on the software itself... Not that is HAS to be embedded in something like frodoplayer or mediacar (or any of the other carputer pieces of software).
sorry vcbb5, I was thinking in computer terms (not carputer) when I mentioned dual display. I meant another screen that would extend my desktop.

ah. If its for your home pc, look into dualhead video cards too. I use a nvidia ti4600 dual mon in dualview mode, and it works great.
