    Cost estimate

Can you guys go over my cost estimate and let me know if its realistic.
I have a PIII laptop 800 mhz with 60 gigs and 256 ram.

Monitor - Dynamix (hopefully) or Lilliput ~250 .
    Wiring - ~50
    FM modulator - ~20
    GPS - ~50
    External Wireless Keyboard/ Mouse - ~50

    Total - 420

    anything else missing guys?

Just curious....why do you say hopefully on the Dynamix? Is it your first choice in screen? If so, why?

you could omit the KB/MOUSE if your getting a TS. If your really on a budget, keep those costs for a good WiFi card, then you could update your mp3s via airwaves(if you can get reception at your car that is) And if its a laptop, then obvisouly you wouldnt need it anyways? What would you be using the mouse and kb for that you can reach to the laptop and type or scroll to. As for a FM modulator, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, they SUCK. You loose many of the lower and higher frequences, as well as otehrs, as most big radio stations do band compression. A better solution would be to take the kb/mouse money, and your fm modulator money, and buy a amp, then just use the lineout from the soundcard to the amp via 2.5mm jack to rca cables, you can even make your own. And if the laptop is going to stay in the car, think about selling it, and buy yourself(or make) a decent box for half the cost, and use that as part of your budget. Noting else i can think of now, if i can ill edit, or repost.

    thanks

    thanks.
I can't sell the laptop, its in pieces. the cover and stuff had broke but the hardware works fine so i am using that.

i think i have an amp that is built in. Its a bose system that comes with the nissan altima (i don't know if that helps).

I am not allowed to modify the car itself (much). So will using an RCA output make me get rid of stuff I already have?

I have the wifi card too.

    thanks so much.

first off, is your car under warrenty? almost any work that is done to the car, not by the dealership or by a licensed mechanic will void the dealerships bumper2bumper warrenty, i dont have time now to research if the boss audio systems amplifier has a rca input, im sure it does, if not some sort of wires that do the same thing, google it and you shall find it. Just remember, if you have to modify it, make it so you can remove it without any traces, that way if your gas cap goes bad, they wont try to charge you 100$ for a new one because your warrenty is now void =*/

I have a BOSS FM modulator that works perfectly well. Sounds better then playing from the radio.

Actually, I believe that the aftermarket modification has to be suspected to be the cause of the device failure for your warranty not to cover it.
If your rod bearings slip apart and shoot a rod thru your fendor I doubt they can try and blame that on your aftermarket HU and subwoofer, unless of course you are pushing 194 decibles, then you have other things to worry about besides a shot engine

I know this to be a fact with GM only though.
