    What about this set-up??

Hey, I recently discovered the wonderful world of carputers and instantly became interested in them. I have read these forums a bit and have thought up a system that I think would work? I want to use this for mp3/cd/dvd eventually GPS and stuff liek that, nothin too complicated. I also want to keep my factory head unit but it does not have a line in on it so what would I do with that?? anyways heres what Ive come up with and some prices that I found online...

    MB: EPIA M10000 Nehemiah 1ghz $159
Screen: Lilliput 7" Touch Screen $140 EBay
    Power: Opus 90w $160
    DVD/CD-R: Panasonic CW-8123-B Slim Slot-Loading $77
    Memory: 256MB $47
    or
    512MB $82
HD: Western Digital caviar SE 40 gb laptop drive $65

    thats a total of $648 for 256MB or $683 for 512MB

I saw a thread for a case that someone found at ikea might do that for like 7 bucks, and how much does it generally cost for all the wireing and stuff?? Am I missin anything? how does it look?

Sounds good to me. As for your headunit you may interface with it. What HU is it? Take a look here . Lots of interfaces.

$140 for a Lilliput TS!!! That is a great deal - but may be too good to be true - make sure you ask the seller alot of specific questions - especially about the TS since the Lilliputs can have trouble with those (even new from what I have read).

As for audio in for your stock HU, check for a AUX input adapter, a good place would be logjamelectronics.com, www.pac-audio.com, www.pie.net, or www.soundgate.com.

For wireing (powe at least) you could pick up an amp wireing kit from Ebay or a car audio store as was suggested in another thread. Just make sure that you put the proper value fuse on the positive line as close to the battery as possible.

Dunno if you care about this, but Wi-Fi is cool to have as well, but can be added later with a USB adapter.

140 for lilliput VGA TS,I don't believe it.

Are you sure it's not a TFT (not VGA). TFT is decent for DVDs & mp3s. No good for GPS.

And if you are buying a lilliput VGA TS, get it from mp3car.com's store. They are tested before being sent out. YOu do not want to be dealing with China when buying a Lilliput which has been prone to some problems (but worth it)
