    Opus: 10 minute delay, bad?

    Everytime I go anywhere with my carputer, unless I know i'll be back in less than 10 minutes, I manually put the carputer in to hibernate.

    I do this because of some internal fear that the opus (set to 10 minute turn off) will not work or, that leaving it on is bad for my battery.

    Is there any validity to my fears?

    Total = $746....Carputer = Priceless

    Well, 150W / 12V = 12,5A

    Look at your battery and see what Ah value it has, and you know how many minutes/hours it lasts before being completely empty (and if you leave it more than one day empty, it might be broken too).

    You could test it with a multimeter, with the car off and PC running, measure the voltage over the 2 poles of the battery. You 'll see how much it drops every x minutes.

    150W is the maximum, it will only use what your hardware requires. Mine uses less than 5A for example.

    Simple test is to leave it on and come back to the car after ten minutes and see what happens. Hibernate is usually OK - standby is the one you need to test well.

    Opus handbook does say to fully test your setup on a normal PSU and power button first - this way you will know that the the 'press' switches off properly.

    I use standby on mine with 10 second setting, and it works every time. When I had touchscreen driver issues and it didn't standby correctly always the Opus switched off on low battery. I have got a new car with good battery however.

    I don't have any confidence issues and have also wired in a power button to enable me to switch on the car pc on the drive and remote control it via VNC to do maintenence and this works fine for over an hour before I remotely put it in standby.

    Thats me you'll have to make your own mind up though.
