    Cool The project begins....

Id like to introduce myself, My names Mikee im from the UK. Im new to in car systems but have just bought a car begging for some ice treatment.

    Its a '98 R Peugeot 306 1.9 D Turbo
    Picture attached

Firstly thanks to Garry (Confused) for all the help and advice he has already given me, it has been invaluable.
My plans for the install are:

Carputer will hook up to the aux input on my headunit,

    Carputer will hopefully consist of:

    Screen: Gain 7" http://linitx.com/product_info.php?c...products_id=45
    PS: In Car DC-DC http://linitx.com/product_info.php?c...roducts_id=344
    ECS K7S5a
    Athlon XP 1600+
    512MB Ram
2nd LCD running Visulaisation in boot
    (Spare computer I have)

One problem im having is finding somewhere to install the touchscreen in the front of the car without attacking the dashboard with a knife. If anyone has found a good place please give me some insight

Will be including all this is a boot install. Will document all work starting around sept 1st (when i pick the car up)

    Thanks guys [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Glad to have you on board, Mikee The pics of the outside of the car are there. To get them to show up in the message (and not as links) you can only attach one picture per post, any more and they'll show up as links as they are.

If you can get a couple of pics of the dash area, then those of us who don't know what the inside of a 306 look like can give our ideas If ya don't, I'll have to go talk to Gina in the main building who has a 306 and take a look at her car (Not that it will be a bad thing to do )

hey Mikee, I have just started my 306 install and am putting the screen below the vents in the dash. The dash is really easy to take apart but the heater controls have to be moved down and the clock removed for it to fit. To move the heater stuff you have to cut some of the mountings and the inside of the dash to allow the corners to slide down but i believe i can do this without causing too much damage that cant be repaired using brackets when i take the screen out. I believe this is the only place to put the screen and it also allows you to either tilt the screen down a bit or have an overhang to help keep the glare off it. I believe the steering wheel controls are simply switches so am looking at wiring these up to the joystick port so they can keep their current functions. I am doing a modest set-up with an IBM thinkpad connected to a docking port with a PCI soundcard in the boot and am consdering having a DVD drive behind the screen which tilts the screen down to eject as i doubt i have room for and know i dont have the money to put a slim slot load below the screen as i had hoped. I do have a picture on here somewhere of my dash, try searching my posts, and I am planning on building in some shaped buttons to save the screen from rough handling and also give me music control when in other modes.

anyway, let em know hoe you are getting on.

    Cheers

    Andy
