Thermal adhesive. It similar to Arctic Silver (or similar compound) but it's an adhesive. Yes, that means you'd actually be gluing a heatsink to the CPU.

Here's an AS adhesive (first hit on by the way...):

And because I know you're reading this, I'll quote the link above:
    CAUTION!
Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive is a permanent adhesive. Components you attach with
Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive will stay attached forever.
    There's your warning....
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

Alright, the distance, screw to screw is about 3.5cm or 1.5 inch.

    Just to clarify:

    3,5 cm = ad or 3,5 cm = ab

why do you want to replace the original one?? and are you replacing just the fan or both ??

it's square, and 3.5 cm equals one side of the square, or 3.5=ab.

Whenever i play anything divx in my carputer, it overheats within 10 minutes...
So I'm hoping a heavier heatsink/fan will do the job, plus that current one is tiny.

I'll probably replace both... but maybe just the fan if that's all I can fit on there

Is there no heatsink on that?..
Anyway this is what I am running on my EPIA MII 10k. I can't say if it made that much of an improvement or not but I am running my system stable now. Use it everyday.

Vantec copper heatsink/fan for vga. With Artic Silver 5 ofcourse.

    Mine needs to be updated.

yeah, it's a tiny tiny tiny heatsink, if you look closely you'll see.

yeah hopefully the heatsink will fix my overheating problems

Today I had the time, so I jump in I tried my idea and it works fine.

I used one socket 370 heatsink+fan and a few screws ( like the ones that secure the fans to the heatsinks)

I pulled off the original heatsink and fan ( from a old asus vga ) (img01 and 02)
Place the new heatsink over the chip and marked the holes.
Drilled the two holes using a bit smaller than the screws. (img03)
Carefully twisted the screws into the aluminum heatsink until they "finish" the hole and can be easily screwed.
Then, assembly the heatsink in the board, and secure it from the bottom, using new screws and the springs from the old heatsink. (img04)
I did not take pics from the finished thing but it worked ok.

So you reversed the direction of the spring cpu screws so that they pull the heatsink down onto the board through holes you drilled into the heatsink?

Do the screws actually thread themselves through solid aluminum?
