I could have the car automatically open the door once it detects the WiFi signal at my house, and maybe add a nice button in one of the common software packages used here to interface the touch screens. Has anyone done something like this before? I am also thinking about maybe interfacing the trunk button, just for the cool factor.
I am working on something similar. The concept is simple. When in Wi-Fi range I run a client server application on my server at home. Client in the car server on the server (obviously). An SSL tunnel gets established and trough a simple protocol the server then listens to commands like "open door" "turn on lights" etc. The server receives the message and then uses X10 devices connected to its serial port to perform the actions. Works quite well

yep I do, I have several, I am more interested in the interfacing with the Car PC interface than anything else, I figured I couldn't be the first one to do this so might as well ask around.

i was considering this the other day, as i have at the moment two garage door openers (two homes atm) not fully understanding how all garage openers work would it be possible to create a universal garage opener in the same way universal remotes work? and have the computer control which settings are used / which frequency etc to open different garages?

just a thought, it sounded like a cool extra in my head =)

They do sell universal garage door openers (garage door manufactures tried to stop this device by using the DMCA law a few months ago, but they lost), I was planning on buying one of those and tie in to that one.
