Every deck is different. I don't think there is a common language between any.
Hello, is there a published spec about the Aux-in connector? specifically, i am looking to create a device that can use the commands on my steering wheel to control my mp3 collection...and maybe even creating some new ones (if the spec allows it)...for example, i would like to spoof my car stereo that supports CD-TEXT into thinking the ID3 tag is the CD-TEXT info...
any pointers would be appreciated...
thanks, peyote

thanks...that blows my idea then for a commercial product if I would have to create a connector for every stereo out there...bummer...
The Neo Jukebox (Neo 35) can interface with a few headunits, you might want to check it out...
I think it's http://www.ssiamerica.com
Here's the one for Pioneer:

Hmm, I thought Aux-in was just a simple audio-in connector...
Now, does anybody know whats inside the Neo Auxilliary port adapter, I'd like to use my cd changer cable. Do I really need an $90 box of tricks?
They are different for every car, go to the site you linked to and check the compatibility list.
No see, what it is is more than just audio in. It has data ports and stuff to display info on your headunit, if it supports it. But THAT particular adapter from SSI is just an audio in device.Originally Posted by Laidback
Why don't you keep the CD Changer. Locate the audio cables, cut them and put in RCA female and male plugs. Then you can plug your PC audio into the headunit and leave the CD spinning, plus if you ever take the PC out you can quickly and easily connect the CD Changer audio up again.
Good suggestion.
