If a n00blet posts one of the common questions, I look to see if someone has already told them to search. If so, then I don't even bother to reply.
The stupidest thread is when a n00b posts and about 12 people reply with "Use the search"

I agree with techeros, even though I may be guilty of telling a newbie to use the search button on a couple of occasions, but I try to help when I can.

I'm guilty too. I always post first than research later. It's easier if someone is just like "Ya, here's the answer!" than "I know the answer, but search anyway you dumb noob" Not fair. I don't tell people to search when they ask questions I think I can help with, I'll do research for them and see what I can find. It's a good feeling to know that you've helped someone do something you've already done. I guess it depends on who you are. Microsoft personality, or Linux personality.

I think "search" is a totally legit answer in some cases

I'll be honest the seach function on here kinda sucks. Dont get me wrong ive found a ton of usefull info but nothing on what i actually searched for. And i dont mind being told to seach if youre helpfull at the same time. A lot of newbies dont know all the terms and lingo to do a good search. Granted they might be in the wrong hobby but thats up to them to decide. And if all youre gonna do is tell someone to search try and spend an extra 5 seconds and give em some keywords to type in. I honestly didnt know an extra battery to run your pc on was called a "Tank battery." I think a lot of people are misguided as to how a carpc is actually setup and therefore may think they are asking a valid question. I agree that some of them are getting a bit retorical. And the trashing of newbies does need to be limited. This is a for the most part a very freindly forum though. But if youre gonna dish be sure you can take it
