Hello Everyone, Ya this is my first post. Stumbled across this site and Been on the forums for quite some time. Anywho...
I'm laying out the plans to set-up and install a Carputer over X-mas break.
Currently my plans are to purchase the following items for install.
Lilliput 7" Touchscreen
Opus PSU 150watt
CPU-C3 Nehemiah 1gh
Dvd Slim Drive
In regards to a Sound Card, From reading the forums 5.1 is req. I plan on running 2 amps(speakers/subs). Anyone have a good recomendation on a Video card that will support 2 amps?
I would like to install Navigation with the Carputer. Since Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005 is out with a GPS receiver included, Would it be better to purchase that. Or simply buy a GPS mouse seperatly?
My install plans are to Replace the HU with the LCD screen so, Will it be at all possible to Run the GPS with directions and MP3 at the same time>I have downloaded Mediacar and MediaEngine and Played around with them.
And Since the DVD drive will be installed up front..When i install a Converter, Anyone have any suggestions on brands?
THanks for everyones Ideas..And plz dont tell me to do a Search, I will be doing that now.
Sound Card - External USB - Audigy2 - I am VERY happy with it - I tried the MP3+ and it sucked. You can run 5.1 out of the audigy straight into your amps, I DO recommend a line driver - like Audio Control's line driver - they are about 100 bucks new, but check ebay. You should check out the gps with strees and trips 05 - let us know if it works - if it sucks - just return it. BUt I am sure that it will work well enough. I use mediacar and I can "Q" up mp3s to play, click on the return arrow, then click on the GPS program and it works perfectly. Good Luck.

STOLEN - M10000, 512MB, 60GB 2.5" HDD, 7" Custom mounted Lilliput, Morex 3688 Case, 90W PSU w/ ITPS, GPS & CD-RW/DVD. New parts ordered for the next generation!
From what I understand Microsoft Streets and Trips is a little bit harder to use with a touchscreen than some of the other pieces of software. I guess if you get an extremely good deal on the software by purchasing it with the receiver then go for the package but if it is almost as much as buying them seperatly I wouldn't do it. You can buy some somewhat cheap GPS receivers on ebay (the bub-303) or whatever (I'm really tired).Originally Posted by Trancematik
the EPIA m10000 has onboard sound.
from one newbie to another, i plan to try the onboard sound and only upgrade to a SoundBlaster if the Via sound isnt good enough.
if your head unit is nice and new, consider relocating it somewhere and keep it mainly for the built-in 4ch amp. Then you would only have to add an amp for the sub. I dont know if this would work for true 5.1 sound
usb or firewire is best if youre putting the PC in the trunk. but youll need a laptop to desktop IDE adapter and a IDE to USB/ifrewire adapter. if you get an external enclosure, it has them built in.
edit: if the PC is in the dash, you just need that first adapter i mentioned...
