    just a little question? off topic but, DSL just became available in my area and they want $100+ for a modem. My question is will any DSL modem work with my local phone companys basic 512 DSL service? Thanks

    The cable pinouts last posted were for a roll over cable. That is used for connecting to a router or switch in the console port.

    The industry standard for cable color code is

    white/orange
    orange
    green / white
    blue
    blue / white
    green
    brown /white
    brown

    for a straight thru cable, pin 1 -1, 2 -2. 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8
    for a crossover cable pin 1-3, 2-6, 3-1, 4-4, 5-5, 6-2, 7-7, 8-8

    guitar333 - As far as I know, it SHOULD. I can use any cable modem for my cable line.. If I were you, get one that is good not cheap, if you want to *raise* your speed at all - You can telenet/etc into it and have some fun

    Actually, it does matter to an extent. You can use any custom color code you want, but the type of cable does matter big time. The militry uses the color code I posted ealier because it gives off the least about of emi. The cross over cable (see prior post) is used to connect to devices of a like nature ie. 2 computers or 2 routers/switches/hubs. A straight through cable is for unlike devices ie.computer to router/switch/hub.

    But who needs cables anyways, lets all go out and buy 801.11G capable equipment lol

    I'm kinda new to the whole car mp3 player thing, but the reason I'm doing it as that I want to do something creative and different to everyone else. You can still get away with fading on soundcards, such as using a 4 channel soundcard, you can do things such as buy a cheap LCD screen to replace a head unit. The best thing about doing this stuff is that you've got total freedom to do it the way that you want to do it.

    Be creative, go nuts, experiment.

    2) should be, make sure you have 5v & 12v
