is this EVERYTHING i need for a basic carputer setup? (and a question)

ok i have a few other questions. i may start a new topic w/ a more related title if i dont get many replies

after researching, is this all i would need basically (and would you recommend something else)

[list]touchscreen LCD Lilliput 7" Touch Screen XGA TFT

    • 500mhz laptop (i already have) w/ 1 com port and 1 usb port

    • misc: 4 port usb hub, usb soundcard, usb fm radio, external usb dvd drive

.... am i missing anything?? besides a few usb and rca cable extensions..

..also, i currently have a head unit. easiest thing to do would be use an FM modulator. are even the GOOD ones worth it?? i dont have aux inputs on my head, so i would have to buy a 200 watt or so amp to push my 4 cab speakers and run the soundcard direct to that amp via rca, correct? should i even bother keeping my head unit if i have to do that? the HU is in a space which cant really be widened or worked with to put anything bigger than a standard 1space din or whatever you call it. only thing i can think to do is either put the a standard dvd drive there, or maybe a casing for the LCD screen if i decide not to mount it internally

i am also looking for suggestions on how to mount the lcd screen inside the dash. and do i need to remove the back of the monitor and JUST mount the screen? the less stuff i have to dismantle, the better being that i have no hands on experience with this. but i will post pics later on my interior if i decide to go ahead with all of this stuff

also, i couldnt find but one suitable thread about laptops for carputers. all you need to do is set the laptop to hibernate when it reaches 70% power or below (that way it stays on even after you turn the car off for a few minutes. im guessing hibernate uses extremely little battery power? is the inverter i listed above suitable for this? i saw another thread where a user was selling stuff and said that his inverter never cut power during crank. i dont understand the details of this, but wouldnt it not matter in my case since my computer has a built in battery?

    thanks

that's a lot of reading, but I'll respond to this part

during the crank, so much power is used from your battery, that one problem that occurs is that your computer can't get enough power because it's all being used to start your car, so it cuts out for a fraction of a second, turning off your computer. You want an inverter to be able to "survive the crank."
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

but obviously with a laptop, that does not matter, as long as you have a working battery, correct?

do you assign the power scheme the way i mentioned? so when the car is runnin, the battery is full. you turn the car off, and the laptop is still on,b ut when it drains down to 70% of the battery, it hibernates? how does it go back on? just set it to return from hibernate when battery is above 70% ? or is there a better way

also, feel free to answer other parts of the first post people

yes you run from sound card direct to amp with rca cables
The only thing that pops into my head for the laptop is to get something like the ITPS controller and hook it up to your power switch. Im not sure but if ya look on the forum here i remember reading something about turning on a laptop
