    Talking My New setup...

Hello, this is the first post of my setup so any comments and ideas would be welcomed!
    This is my car:

I am using a Comcrap Armada M700 (P3 700Mhz) laptop with a power inverter as the computer. WinXP with MEDIAENGINE as the interface. Lilliput 7" Touch Screen as the input controls along with a micro keyboard for GPS navigation (MS Streets and MAps 2005 which SUCKS! for mobile applications.)
I soldered a connector from the power button in the laptop to a momentary button in the glovebox. So I start the computer from there, hibernate it from the touch panel. Pretty happy with those results.
Thinking of doing the modification to the lilliput so it will go on when it gets power. Also thinking of re-locating the touch screen.
    See below for my install!

Below is the current mount for the LCD... Please help me change that.

So let me know any ideas for relocating the LCD to a better place.. You currently have to lean forward a little to touch anything.. I want it closer tso that I can tap it without reaching.
Thanks ! OH! I already paid for this crap GPS software, anyone have somethign better that is a free download for USA? Winamp is free, Video players are free... But there are versions you can pay for to get more feature from. There should be a version of GPS software that works but is free.
    Thanks for all help!

Welcome to the board. Post a pic of the laptop.
As for the screen, you could relocate the hvac controls down, and mold the Lilli in the dash.

    .

I'd almost think about molding that LCD using fiberglass bondo right where it is.. just make the encloser using the bondo.. also run those wires up through the dash so you can't see em..

I accually tried to relocate the controls lower, but the air tubes wernt long enough and the cable for the heat/cool was not moving either... I would have to re-run all the vacuum line and cables if I were able to move it.. And I have tried to locate the LCD on the bottom and move the radio somewhere else.. But the stickshift only obstructs view of the screen too
So, it appears that I can either build a box as Intellaworks suggested, or move it down in front of the vents (Which now down work thanks to the broken HVAC controls that I have to still repair and move the vents to flow around the screen... Then build little vents into the enclosure...
Hrmm thats somethign to think about.

As for the laptop picture, It is currently permenantly mounted uncer the seat so I cannot take a picture of it as of yet. But it is a Compaq Armada M700. Nothing special about it. Wireless network to come soon enough.

As far as better navigation is concerned.... get the Destinator 3 Frontend made by NinjaMonkey. It has its own forum on this board. Then.... go "find" the US maps for Destinator
