    Carputer Chasis Placment

    Ok im a noob here.
im a noob to carputers, but not computers.

heres the deal. i have been wanting to put a carputer in my car, had it all planed out for my 1985 Mazda RX7, then the engine died and i had to get a new car.

with my new car being a longer car i was considering placing it in the trunk. however thinking about it that would mean having to route all the cabels for power, interface, and speakers into the trunk.

heres the question. where have you guys/gals placed the chasis of your Carputer in your car?

in the dash? under front seat? under front passenger seat? in the trunk?
im just trying to figure out the best place to put it that would reduce the amount of rewiring that i will have to do.

    thanks all.

(and yes i used the search but didnt get the answers i was looking for)
please keep in mind im shoprt on cash and using the computer parts i have on hand (ie. mobo, hdd, CPU, RAM, CDrom) and planing on ordering a DC-DC power supply, and screen. so this means using desktop computer parts (ATX form factor, Celeron 500mhz chip etc etc) all mounted in a custom built case.

mines in the boot, as i see it there are advantages and disadvantages of both

    front disadvantages:
    limited space
i like 802.11 cards as far away as possible
    fan noise

    rear disadvantages:
longer to route cables (except for sound if you have amps in the boot)
possible HDD damage if you have big subs in the boot

and the advantages would pretty much be the opposite

    thanks for the feedback.
im planing on mounting my HDD in a custom built shock absorber setup, RC car oil filled shocks, so hopefully that will help protect againt the problem with the subs (not that i have my subs yet, but when i do...)

Mine's under the dash. Makes for really easy cabling.

I'm in the trunk because it made the install was easier in my cars setup and I can almost completely deaden out the sound of the fans (AMD Proc) from the cabin area.
