The easiest way would to get something like this: http://www.digitalww.com/DWW-7VGT.htm
And then fabricate a door above it to cover it as a separate unit.
First post! I am currently using a 98 jeep wrangler /w a soft top (which latches form the inside). I'm friends with gr4yscale and saw his carputer, so now I am inching to make one. My idea is... put a black door in front of a "flip out" lilliput (im a noob, pardon my lingo) and have a key hole on the side of the door that unlocks it. So Whenever I want to use my monitor, i unlock a door and then however it works, the flip out screen will come out. Any ideas or suggestions on how or what I need to do this? The Jeep doors are attached by 2 hinges and a strap, absolutely no automatic brakes or alarm systems. The back of the jeep has a perfect spot to lock the physical components of the computer. The problem is protecting the (around 400$) screen from thieves. If you have any ideas or suggestions, i would be more than happy to hear them, this is quite a dilemma. Gr4yscale mentioned something to the degree of sticking a fake radio over the door, too. or something.

Yep, that's what I would need, but what are some good options for security? and do the screens flip out when the car is started, or when you hit a button? (programmable?)

That one is non-motorized so you have to press a button and pull it out your self. Currently you can't buy a VGA motorized one, maybe in a month to a year you can (long story).Originally Posted by TheMauveStorm3
As for trying to secure it, hopefully someone that is more knowledgeable in fabrication and how your car is set up can help. I do think it’s a good idea, never thought much about it and can’t remember ever seeing it done except for the old put something infront of it trick

Is there another section that I should probably send my question? or is this the best place?

Ask the guys at a car audio store for locking enclosures? That maybe a place to start.
