Thread: Condensation

I haven't heard about others having this problem. As far as the heat thing, I would imagine it would be a problem if you haven't let the inside of the car war up before turning the computer on. If you had remote start on your car that could be helpful. You could turn the heater on full blast when you get out at night, that way in the morning you could remote start the car a few minutes before you go to get in it...then it should be nice n toasty for when you want to turn the computer on...

other than that, do a few searches, I know there have been a few people to post about their experiences and what they did to fix the problems that came about.

i agree that remote start in NE is critical. also i am thinking maybe a power switch for computer, monitor, and amp might be good. that way at night after i turn heat up, i can also kill power to them all, so when the car starts, i dont try to run a frozen pc.

what do you think about plug and play pc?

i havent seen the back of the opus ps, but i assume it is all hard wired to it from the car battery. or is it a plug? if so, that would be sweet... really bad nights i could just bring the pc inside!

Any thoughts on that?

You could probably also try for a "removable PC" -- something small enough with just the usual connections. When it's 20 below or something, just unplug it at night and bring it in the house with you. In the morning it'll be nice and toasty and ready to go from the start.

Seems like a hassle, but it beats having to wait 10 minutes before the PC is warm enough to use or something, no?

every thing that goes into the opus can be unplugged very easily. it's just like a box with plugs on it when u get it. so yes u could bring it in quite easily

Well, I'm from NY, so I can maybe help you relate a little better. TO the point of the weather we have had, I can tell you that the weather has not been an issue. Only once has the drive made noise on me, and that was for like 1minute before it went completely away and never came back. Condensation - has not played an issue yet.

Just as a side note, I am a Remote Start user, but I'm crazy enough where my computer starts right up with the remote start, so after the car has been nice and cold from sitting outside over night, the computer starts right after I set the vehicle to start. So the Puter has gotten its share of "abuse".

@Daracerz: i'm glad weather isnt that bad for the puter (though it can be for us)... my plan is to get remote start first, then do the pc install.

i plan on having all of the above... a portable pc that starts with the ignition but has a master kill switch i'd turn off before going inside...
