Start my own carpc build (have a few questions).

Ok so i want to start a CarPC, i already have components/software set up for it. The 3 things that I am missing, but researched are; lilliput 7in touchscreen lcd, 90watt opus, and a gps thingy. The specs for the computer are: P3 tulalin 500mhz processor, 768mb of ram, 20gig harddrive. Although i do have a serious question, and it decides if i am going to put it in or not. Ok, my clarion MP3/cd player doesnt have aux input (right here!) , but if i could just splice the cables going from the motherboard, would i be able to play music, and at fairly good quality? My car (a saab 1990 9000CD sedan), already has an amp (although i havent a clue where it resides in the car since it is a stock one, if i couldnt splice the cabling, could i possibly get a cheap amp to replace it?

    Hi, and welcome.

I don't get what you mean by splicing the cables from the motherboard. If you have onboard sound, you need to get some mini-jack to rca (tulip) cables to connect the sound to an amp.
A standard amp that is! My Volvo had an amp too, but that was a positive ground one, which kept blowing my fuses when connected to something else then the stock radio.

You also could get a fm-modulator, but you will lose on soundquality.

How do you use the stock amp now? Did you connect the line-level outputs of your clarion hu to the amp or is it unused now?

If you connected your clarion, you will be able to connect the pc the same way, maybe needing some switch to choose between hu and pc.

Sorry, but Intel never made a 500mhz tualatin. The ram is a bit much... too much ram = slow resume from hibernate.

Ok what i mean by splicing, is that the dash has 4 rca outputs, right. So all i would do is attach a splitter, so i could have 2 outputs=going to the same speakers. Although i would have to choose between one source or the other, it wouldnt be to hard. I havent looked for the amp yet, but when i got my head unit installed at fry's electronics, it took them a while to install it because they said it was amplified (3 hrs to install!), they had to modify the wiring harness where the head unit is located to allow it to work, taking out my equalizer in the process (damn i loved it), so i am looking into a carpc to take up its space. The processor might be overclocked to 504mhz, but under cpu-z it reads out as a tulain. Weird huh

Most motherboards can be off by a few Mhz... but if its a Tulain then you're probably running it at the wrong FSB speed!

can we disregard the computer specifications here, and concentrate on the serious questions at hand. I looked at a the M1-atx or the carpcpro v2.2, which one do you think would be the best. I liked the functions of the carpcpro, but am unsure of which one to get? should i go for around a 250-350watt inverter seeing as the computer + screen wouldnt take up much power

In general, the Tutatalin was never available at that speed.
