Thread: Decision time - any suggestions?

I have been toying with a few ideas this week, and I think I'm finally getting somewhere. A lot of searching and cross-referencing with electronically minded friends have me thinking of new ways to do things.

The first problem I had was the physical location of the car computer. I have decided that the best location so far is under the front-passengers feet, with thick clear perspex.

I have also been looking at the power supply issue, and have almost come to a conclusion.

Now the things that I need advice on are:

Assuming I can mount a smaller 40-60mm fan on the side of the CPU heatsink, is there anything else that will suffer from being in a thinner case?

If I'm using a Pure Sine Wave inverter, 500W, what is the best way to keep the line noise down, I can only find a 40A line filter which isn't going to be large enough.. by my calculations. (12v * 40a = 480W) If the computer is only using say 200w, will the inverter always draw that much power or is it only going to draw what it needs..
