So hereís the deal, the ultimate project.
Iím going to build a PC in my car that will include the following technologies:
∑ GPRS/GSM (both for calls and Data)
∑ REV CAM or Sensors
I am about to purchase a new car (Next week or so). I am considering either a 1999 Toyota Landcruiser, or 1998-1999 Mitsubishi Pajero. Both have double Din Dashboards, so Iím not really worried about that yet. The Toyota is a much better car, but also more expensive
Input and Display:
I intend to integrate a 7Ē Touchscreen in the dashboard. There will be no other type of input into the system!
I will connect the computerís sound card directly to a 200wX4 amplifier.
I want to include the software know as Destinator (3?!) into the setup. I am unfamiliar with this software. I understand it has many feauters I would like to include in the setup. IE Speed camera and it has local maps (Israel)
I will include MP3 file son the computer as well as a DVD drive and some sort of an FM card/KIT.
I have a NOKIA 6100 with Data cable at my disposal for this project, as well my carrier includes unlimited GPRS for $2 (USD) / mo. I will also install a WIFI connection to connect to my home PC.
I will install a rev cam or on screen sensors (I do not know of any program that includes them). If it is a rev cam it will automatically gain control of the screen when the rev. gear is set.
I would like to install an alarm using the phone and SMS messages. IE sms 1 Ė unlocks doors. 2 Ė starts car. Ect. 3- lights. This will be as an addition to a key-chain remote.
I am a volunteer in the local police dept. I have 2 strobe police lights in my car. I would to some how integrate them into the system.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help me take on this huge project.
Many of these subjects are not familiar to me. Any help will be thankfully accepted.
1-2 weeks Get car.
3-4 weeks Make a list of parts needed to complete the system.
1-2 Months Purcahse, borrow and steel all parts necessary to complete the system.
2-4 Months Build system.
I have a Digi-cam. And I will setup a website so you could track to progress of the build.
As I progress I will post questions on this thread, so be sure to check back for updates.
Feel free to post any comments you want.
