noob questions for custom carputer for BMW

i am going to get a lilliput monitor with custom trim for my car. Now I want to make a custom computer onto my car. I was going to use all regular pc parts that i have lying around (regular mobo, cpu, dvd slot drive, 300watt ps, soundcard, and my 200 gig hd).
Is there anything i have to worry about like heating for the hd or computer?
Also could i just technically turn my comp off before i turn off the car or will it drain the battery? also what can i do so when i turn my car off, the computer automatically shuts down without me manually doing this. I searched the forums but ntohing is really helping me
    Thanks

Knowing where you live would help answer that question. But generally speaking, the answer is no.

Knowing how you're thinking of powering it would help to answer that question...

Search articles on power supplies. Opus has the ability to power your PC, even through engine cranking. It will start the computer and shut it down with only inputs from the ignition switch.

It's tough to wade through the information, I know! But the answers are here (mostly). Just be prepared to invest MANY hours of research. START by reading the Newb FAQ thread.
My first attempt at a carputer.

PM me if you're interested in a monitor faceplate for your '99-'04 Golf or Jetta. My Vortex ID is NorthAtlR32 - you can IM me there, too. Go here for more information.

    Hi,
I have also a e39 from 1999. I was planning to build a car pc in my car. The biggest problem is where can i get a bezel which fits 7" vga. Is there any tutorial about building a carpc into a bmwe39 or a shop which sells e39 compatible trim sets etc? I am not so sure about control, sound and power integration and very affraid of hurting my baby. Any idea?

I understand ur concern, but the forum for "E39" dude

I'm currently working on a bezel here, others have been successful using different approaches.

I've been searching the whole week and did not find anything usefull. I know that i can't make a bezel adaptor for my baby i am not so handy with all these fiberglass stuff and it seems very tricky job to me. There is only one guy (prob. from usa or can) who produces custom e39 bezels and he asks more than 250$ for each piece. It is too much money for a mounting device and this is actually not so much for a handwork like this. So still looking for an cheaper solution.
