Thread: Turn on Laptop via Ignition?

You might be able to just put it to sleep/hibernate. Then come back to it and it comes on instantly.

I would like to get it in and out of hibernate automatically as well.

check to see if you can set up your cigarete lighter to work with your ignition. usually this is a fuse setting. it may be possible to set it up so that when you turn off the car, the cigarette adapter becomes unpowered. in the power management of the latop, you would then set it up so that when it looses the plugged in power source, that it will automatically shut down (or preferably hibernate) problem that is bigger is going to be your start up. youd still need to push the power button to wake up from hibernation after you get in teh car and give the port power.

All of the 12V sources in my car stay on regardless of the ignition status.

I know that the ECU has a trigger wire, but I don't know how I can use that to startup the laptop.

Are there software solutions?

if it is going to be a permanent install of the laptop then you could hack the power switch and but it on a relat or a external button

Thanks scouse, that opened up many new options.

If the docking station can power up the laptop, thatmeans certain pins that connect the dockingstation to the laptop are the powerup ones.

How do I test that, without buying a docking station?
