You're going to paya premium for those units because it's got all the cool whiz-bang gee-whiz nifty features.Originally Posted by PapaPrem
Does anyone know of any stand alone DVD/MP3 unit that will display Visual Graphics when connected to a LCD monitor, while playing music? Kind of like how Windows Media Player has the Visual Graphics while playing an MP3. I was looking for a unit similar in price and specs to this: Blaupunkt DVD-ME3. Only thing is, this unit does not have the Visual Graphics Screen Saver. Any suggestions?
I was thinking you could get a unit like the blaupunkt and use that for the audio while playing a cd, but hookup an old playstation 1 to the video and put in any audio cd and it does visuals!!
Via ME6000 mobo - 120
256 megs of RAM - 40
40 gig laptop drive - 80
DVD/CD Slimline Optical drive - 60
That has enough horsepower to play a lot of visualizations. Can package it even smaller than that blaupunkt DVD player. Sure it is 200 more dollars than you hoped to spend.
I have to look and see how my DVD player does it, but there is a way to play music and do slideshows of pictures, and it also might do primative visualizations. Both the Koss and Apex cheapo ones I have do them.
I really dont want to run a PC in the car right now. Because I know, if I want it done right, it's going to cost me. I rather shell out the big bucks later on for the premium products like the OPUS and all, and have it done right. The Playstation idea really wouldnt be worth it just for visuals. For right now, I rather get something like a MP3/DVD unit like the Blaupunkt, and just attatch it to a composite screen. Would something like this: Polaroid Portable DVD Player work in the car? It might be worth it to spend like 40 bucks extra to have a portable DVD/Mp3 player that I can take with me and use, as compared to the aforementioned Blaupunkt unit. Im just having a tough time finding something that will give me Visuals while the audio is playing. More importantly, I would need something that would display the ID3 tags and possibly show all the MP3 tracks that are on the CD.
This is the same thing I was thinking...finding a smaller dvd player (home dvd player) and using a power inverter to power the thing, and then get a cheap 100 dollar in-dash flip out lcd screen, to view the visualizations and/or see the track/mp3 file name. Only thing is, you'd have to use the remote, or hit buttons on the front of the dvd player to skip through the tracks, and that's kinda EH...

I have this headunit, which plays mp3s - but on a cd you can only fit like 150. On a 1gb thumb drive, you can fit like around 200 - but that's the max size you can plug into the usb port, suuposedly -by the way, this head unit only costs $99 bucks at best buy, AND it has aux mode, with rear audio INPUTS for hooking up dvd players/playstation, whatever. If I found an in-dash dvd player, I could fill up the other half of my toyota double din space, get rid of the dumb pocket I never use, and then just control the tracks from that in-dash dvd player. All you need is something to read the disc, becuase the headunit is what controls the sound quality, and I'm happy with how it sounds.
This second option would be a little more expensive, I think - even more so if I got a dvd player that included a flip up screen and tv tuner. Or, I could always externally mount a tv, but you don't really need that. Sure, itd be cool...BUT
Does anyone know any dvd players that play visualizations when you put a disc in with mp3 files burned on it????
I have a JVC, and it plays the tracks, lists about 10 at a time on the screen. I got a 50 dollar sanyo at walmart, and the menus are a little nice -PLUS it scrolls the filename of the current song that is playing across the screen. What DVD player can you buy that's relatively cheap, that does this AND possibly has visualizations!? Or, even just a dvd player that scrolls the mp3 name across the display on the front of it, as it is playing? hmm...
There are so many options, all under 150 bucks, basically...since I already have my head unit. I don't want to build a computer for my car, so that's out of the question. No trunk space, anyways - I've got 3 tens and an amp back there already...![]()
