    Scandisk in the Backround

OK, as some of you may have known, I'm having to wait like 8-10 minutes for my carputer to start. As I thought about it, I realized that it was running scandisk in the backround behind the HP Invent screen. So then I get into my computer and I press Start > Shutdown. It shuts down completely, and then turns on immediately (without waiting 8-10 minutes). It only turns on because my keys are still in the ignition and the shutdown controller thinks I just turned the car on or something. However, when I turn my car off in the midst of shutdown, it is giong to take another 8-10 minutes to shut down. Help!! What do you guys suggest I do?! I'm stumped on ideas. I finally figured out what's wrong, and now I need a solution!! There has to be somewhere in Windows where this can be configured. I'm soo confused.

First question. What operating system are you on? Sounds like the 9x series to me. In any case, search around for scandisk reg tweaks. They're out there. Basically, via the registry you can disable startup scandisk checks.

You're running XP and it's running scandisk on boot? I've never really heard of that. Have you tried fishing around in the bootup section if you right click on my computer and then go to performance I think? I'm currently on 2k otherwise I'd check. Also have you checked around in your BIOS (doubt it's there but worth a shot) and also have you searched through HP's site about any previous problems with your situation?

    Hope that helps.

Well, I checked around in my Bios and I don't think its there. I'll check around in my computer, that seems like an interesting idea. It has to be something that's going on right when I turn on the computer because it won't just stay there randomly for 8 minutes and then just turn on..

Yea that's true, that's really weird. I've had a lot of experience with odd things happening on the boot (I'm tech support for all my computer illiterate friends) and I've never heard of it doing scan disk, although it is M$ so it is possible.

I wish I could get to an XP machine because I know right where that thing is if I can do it myself. You right click my computer then go to performance and then Startup and Variables or something like that. Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't even know if that has any options you're looking for but it's a more specific startup list location then the stupid Start Menu one. You could also try doing start -> run -> msconfig and search around in there.

You might have HDD problems mate. Do chkdsk C: /R , restart and leave it a while to check/fix errors on the disk at next boot, then reboot and see if it happens again.
