Destinator 3 - Jeeez, not again!

Hi Guys, apologies if you've been asked these questions before but I would very much appreciate your help.

It would seem that Destinator 3 is the nav s/w to go for but having done the search bit, read the relevant posts and Googled til' my fingers bled I'm still a bit in the dark. I get the bit about having to buy D3, not a problem, happy to do so.

Do I need SDK or will frontends like MapMonkey sort that element out?
If I do need SDK where would I buy it from as the Googling efforts drew blanks?
Am I right in thinking that D3 has to be installed before MM?
If so, how do you install D3 without a PDA?

If there is a thread that details a full install of D3 and MM (or others) could you please direct me to it. If not, would it be possible for one of you more enlightened chaps to post a permanent thread so that newbies like me can be spared the potential embarassment of asking the same questions over and over and over again.

    Many thanks for your patience.

ok.. first off.. there is currently NO pc version of D3.. What you see is the SDK version. Now the SDK version comes without maps and with a locked .dll driver. This locked driver limits you to 3mb maps.

So If you buy the Pocket PC version of D3, then you have the maps..
If you install mine, or Ninja's Frontend you will have the SDK..

but you still need the .dll driver that will support over 3mb maps.. If you managed to download one of the early D3 frontends, then this did come with the .dll you require.

hope this clears some things up.

    Cheers

Thanks CdR, great reply, that's cleared up most of it.

NM or CdR F/E + D3 map source + .dll from earlier F/E = carpc satnav

'If you managed to download one of the early D3 frontends...' suggests that they are no longer around. I doubt if I have one being a newbie an' all. Are they still likely to exist somewhere?

One last thing, sorry! How do you register the D3 s/w if you can't install it or is there no need to because it's just the map files you need?

    Many thanks

You are best e-mailing [email protected] and asking them.

I have recently been told that with the UK PPC version (from www.linitx.com) which I already have, all I need is the NEW SDK from http://sdk.destinator1.com ($50) which is different to the one flying around at the moment, and has proper activation features. I am still waiting for 100% confirmation on this... And also if I can distribute it for others for free.

lol I've just looked on there site.. so you can pay $50 for the SDK.. and get zero support from them.. Then they go on and say I can pay $150 for the SDK and one request.. this only lasts a month. To be honest.. I think there taking the ****.. pulling my plonker.. ripping my arse out of my body.. With some force I might add.

So they want you to buy the SDK.. Then buy the D3 pocket PC.. for the maps. Then expect you to suss it all out yourself with zero support. After playing with there FREE sdk I have to say its full of bugs. something I would want to see resolving before paying for a updated version.

I am all for them making money.. dam thats what there in business to do. But to clearly rip people off like this, sorry but I dont agree. The SDK should be free to all those that own the original PPC version of Destinator 3. A simple activation could of been added which checks the serial of the PPC version, if all is ok, you have a fully working SDK if not.. then nothing works. I would agree to this, and also build in some protection for this into my Frontend, infact anything to help them make sure the user has purchased a original copy of D3 for the PPC.

As it is I will continue to provide the Free SDK version with my FreeDrive. I will not include the cracked dll however. But I am very tempted to post a patch file that cracks it for you. Total rip off in my eyes.

    Balls in there court.

Hmmmm, maybe I should reconsider which nav s/w to use. PL don't appear to be much help. What about Infomap navigator 4 Europe Pro, does FD support this?

    Feel free to PM me

I don't know how it works, I thought if you buy the SDK you can give it with the app you make free i.e. so only you and NM have to pay for it... I've asked for it for free and waiting for them to get back to me

I sent them an email asking about this a week or so ago based around me developing my own D3 engine and giving it away, asking if I could have the proper SDK free and give it away to licensed D3 users... Apparently their are 'internal stakeholders' and the guy needs to 'consider their input' and he will be back to me very soon (got the email back today)

    Have you emailed them?
