Sounds strange to me... I always install the Gordian Knot codec pack... That's pretty good.

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post, but I'm having problems with videos that have been compressed. Basically everything is too dark with the exception of red and some blue whos colors are quite a bit oversaturated. I should be divx and xvid codecs. has anyone ran into this problem yet? what can i do to fix it? thanks.

thanks i'll try that one.
ohh and for about 3 hours before making my first post, i was uninstalling and installing those codecs to no avail.
I like the ACE mega codecs pack, but then it probably has many of the same. It comes with some nice utils too. GSpot is good for finding what codec a file requires if you don't have it. GraphEdit is good for seeing what is used when you load a file. If a codec is acting funky, just uninstall it and try another one. But often times we have some many that removing one will just allow another to be used. That's the bad thing with these huge codec packs. Installing a bunch that do the same thing and not testing them to make sure they all work well (like DivxDec which can crash explorer just from opening a folder with a corrupt clip in it when all you really need is DivX).
I was using the K-Lite Codec Pack for the first few months, then I found a few movies that where kind of twitchy, and I switched over to Ace Codec Pack . That fixed the few problems. I would endorse either though.

thanks guys. i fixed it. i'm not sure how. i was trying to take a screenshot so i decided to use intervideo windvd for the snapshot feature. windvd ended up displaying it correctly. switched back to winamp, bad colors again. windvd, still working fine. then i was messing with my video card settings and it windvd's colors turned bad. restarted, windvd worked fine. ::shrug:: but now it works for everything. i also updated my graphics drivers afterwards and its still working fine.
