Help choosing package... Motherboard and more...(If you have time help me!!!!! hehe)

I'm not really a noob, I already have a computer with an inverter running in my Range Rover, with a Xenarc mounted, all wires running hiddne, etc, upgraded my sound system etc... Now I want a better computer, cause mine has heating problems and isnt at all elegant a tower in my trunk...heheh

What do you guys think of these? Which do you recommend and why? This will be for GPS, MP3, DVD, Video, OBDII, Hooked direct to Amp (so I'll use 4 channels + sub maybe later 5+1), will run 800x480 resolution (I dont mind using powerstrip but I need this resolution for my xenarc as 8x6 looks like crap)...

    --- MII12000
    --- Slim 40GB HD
    --- 512MB DDR Ram
    --- CD-RW/DVD Slim drive

    or

--- Does this require a processor? What processors are compatible with this mobo?
    --- Slim 40GB HD
    --- 512MB DDR Ram
    --- CD-RW/DVD Slim drive

Okay, if you have time to help me decide between these or point me slightly elsewhere, here are a few questions regarding the chosen option:

How would I best go about powering this up in the car?
And this should support 5.1 sound output right?
Would it be possible to use a laptop HD instead?
    Does it support TV-in/TV-out?
Oh, and any idea if that graphics controller supports 800x480 resol?

Your first link shows "HTTP 404 - Not Found" and the last link only shows the case.

Sorry bout that, updated the link... I moved this from the general forum cause I thought this was more appropriate so I mis-copied the link... fixed now!

As for the last link, it is apparently a case but it mentions a motherboard that is inlcuded which I believe is a P4 MB but I'm not sure what processor I would need and how much it would be... the last two links I also added the options which I selected to get the total price.

I know a lot of people are using the VIA Epia boards and are quite happy with them, but I wanted something small without limit my processing potential too much, so I went with a mini-ITX factor P4 board, which I got from idotpc.com.

Which one did you get? Does it support 5.1 sound and 800x480 res?

I wanted a C138 case that is like a 2-din lookalike... Is that what you have? Anyways, how are you powering it in your car? how many watts powersupply?

    Thanks for all!

Here are the specs for the mb in your 3rd link, yes, it requires a processor. http://www.caseoutlet.com/common/pro...670-Spec-b.jpg

My motherboard was simply described as "VIA P4-ITX" - as it turns out, it uses a VIA chipset, but the motherboard is not manufactured by VIA. http://www.idotpc.com/TheStore/Deskt....status=orange

Not sure about the 800x480, I run it in 800x600 streched. I don't watch movies (or haven't yet, so the stretching is not a big deal to me). Eventually when I get my car back, and the puter back in, I'll play around with Powerstrip and see about the 800x480 res.

Based on the dimensions of my dashboard, I wasn't able to use a Travla case (case was too deep, even without the handle). Finally, I am running an Opus 150W power supply, and haven't had any problems with it. =)

Edit: It supports 5.1, based on the application (eg WinDVD), but not full-time..

I agree with the epia being to slow, but I can tell you that the p4 is too power hungry & runs very hot. If your really looking to do it right the first time I would strongly suggest you look into the faster low power options, with the best probably being intels pentium m chip. second best would be a mobile athalon. don't confuse these with a p4m or a regular athalon, you really should stay with a mobile lower powered design if your looking for the best solution. runn this off an opus 150 & it's foolproof........

unfortunately the best usually costs the most & I don't think there are any exceptions here, personally I have decided on a centrino design with a pentium m 1.6 donthan, this uses a 2 gig secondary cache, & it is faster than the 2.8p4 that I am ripping out to replace with this.live & learn,

think laptop drives & low power mobile technology, belive it or not this will wind up making your install go much easier, if you look at all of the problems people have powering there systems & all there periferals you will realize that efficency should be high on your priority list......unless your from the camp that wants an inverter & a wastefull powerhouse, complete with noisy fans..........

can you point somewhere to buy the mobo/processor?

does your mobo fit on the case i mentionedd above? does the video support 800.480 and do you have 5.1 output? (front/rear sepparate)

search, check newegg.com, I personally decided to go with a centrino laptop motherboard, & I also looked at the commel, lv-671(I think). two of the biggest headaches with a car pc install is cooling & power, starting low power & cool running is an advantage that is worth researching..........
