Did I get Ripped Off?
i recently bought a pentium 4 mobile cpu on ebay..good price so i bought it...i bought the mobile version(pulled from laptop) because it consumes less wattage...he claims its 1.7 ghz when i plugged it into my via p4 board it read it as 1.2ghz...is that regular? or did he lie to me?
if you read up a lot of these things detect incorrectly....it might really be a 1.7
i think my 1.7 ran at 1.7........however I was able to run it at 2.4 no problem.
Up the stepping a bit...run it at 1.7 and watch the temps.....if its open and properly cool it probably wont get above 85º F
also how much did you pay for it?

you need to set the bus speed and clock multiplier on you mother board
right now you are underclocking - this may not be bad as it draw even less power.
i dont want to draw even less power. i paid like 75 bucks for it..its really nice and small chip! i have a really big heatsink on it with a fan and an additional 4 80mm fans for the case. 2 pulling in air and 2 pushing it out...i dont think heat will be an issue for me...any one know how to set the bus speed?
Step 1) get the board info and post it here

Step 2) look it up in the manual, either online, or in the booklet it came with.
Most likely it is a jumper or a setting in Bios....just hard to say which one without a model #
