    Question New Bloke Needs Help

    hello and congrats on a great site , ive been reading though before i registered. Firstly I WILL be building my own car pc this year but not to sure what I want yet.

    Dont know whether to ditch the head unit and run all for the car pc or combine the head unit with the car pc

    If I decided to ditch the head unit I would need radio playback on the pc how is this done as the mobo i fancy only has 1 pci slot?

    Also I fancy a cdrw rom on the dash but computer in the boot . can this be done..

    Just a few questions for now

    One suggestion thouth: ss soon as you have your answers from others, start a new thread under LCD/Display section and name it: What should I go for - Xenarc or Lilliput?

    Correct. As well as: what should I do - connect my CarPC directly to amp or rather interfacing it with HU? These 2 are most asked (and flamed) question here.

    There are USB tuners out there. Most of them suck donkey balls as far as reception goes, from what I hear. The most promising is the Griffin Radioshark, but I haven't seen anything about its reception.
    There's also a projhect to create a better PC radio tuner. Check this thread:

    I would try and keep th HU if possible (flame suit on and armed). mainly because it gives you audio backup for those times when the carputer does not work. And believe me there will be times.

    Enforcer Advice Alert:

    have a look at the Show off your project section, it should give you a few ideas of what other people have done (hopefully they also explain why). have a look to see if anyone has put a PC in a car similar to yours.
